Review: Only Murders In The Building - Season 2, Episode 1+2

We return to The Arconia and our favorite podcasting trio in Season 2, Episode 1: Persons of Interest and Episode 2: Framed. Now that our trio are murder suspects after Mabel was found with Bunny’s body in her apartment, this season begins with a bang.

The sense of humor we all loved in season 1 is on fire in season 2 and it feels like no time has passed at all. I’m so happy to see Charles, Mabel and Oliver again! During “Persons of Interest”, our trio want to be normal for a while.. but it doesn’t take long for them to take up the podcast mic again to investigate Bunny’s murder. How can they not, when they’re at the center of it? With their hunger for the truth and the motivation to clear Mabel of any wrongdoing, they’re back on the case.

Each character’s own storyline connects to the mystery, but Alice is a puzzle. How does she fit in to Mabel’s story? I’m intrigued to find out. Alice shows Mabel what her life could be like without the Arconia’s mysteries.. but Mabel soon realizes those mysteries are a part of her, and she doesn’t want to leave them unsolved. I love the chemistry between Mabel and Alice, too… but I’m not trusting Alice just yet.

Cinda Canning will no doubt be a problem for our trio this season, as I’m sure she will attempt to steal the limelight of Bunny’s murder for her own gain. The police are also highly skeptical of Charles, Oliver and Mabel (understandably, since Mabel was found with the body) and I can see they’re going to be watching our trio closely this season.

There’s so much potential for comedic collisions if Cinda and the trio hunt for clues or interview the same suspects while trying to build their cases. When it becomes clear there isn’t enough evidence to hold them because Bunny was killed by a knife and not a knitting needle, the trio are released. They ponder other important questions: Who actually poisoned Winnie? Who messaged Oliver and Charles to alert them, and did they also message Mabel? Who left the notes on Jan’s and Oliver’s doors? Did Jan kill any other Arconia residents? Why did Bunny have the branded podcast merch?

I love that the show pokes fun at itself with the line “It’s very rare for a true-crime podcast to do a sequel. They usually move on to a new case that never hits like the original.” Once again the writing is on point and has set season 2 up to be a fun ride. Bring on episode 3!
