Review: Acapulco - Season 2, Episode 7

With the threat of blackmail hanging over his head, Maximo finds himself sitting right next to Diane as she vows to find the employee who leaked information to the gossip reporter. Uh oh. They interview the staff one by one, who all deny it was them. Lupe informs them they’re terrible at interrogations. Chad decides he knows who the mole is, and he’s decided it’s Memo.

Chad’s evidence is Memo speaking to the reporter on the press line – but of course, Memo didn’t leak anything. Diane gives Chad and Maximo the night (which happens to be the night of Chad’s and Julia’s “bachelor” party) to get the information out of Memo. So Maximo has one night to clear Memo’s name without implicating himself, or he will have to fall on his sword and own up.

Meanwhile, Julia is not thrilled when Chad’s ex girlfriend Kelly from Los Angeles shows up at the resort, but she relaxes slightly when Kelly flashes her wedding ring. Back at home, she enlists Sara to keep Kelly away from Chad tonight as Julia trusts Chad, but she does NOT trust Kelly. Julia notices the travelling silver bracelet on Sara’s wrist and Sara gifts it to her, so now the bracelet is where it was always meant to be.

At home, Nora and Esteban are having dinner with Esteban’s mother. She quickly deduces Nora is far too good for Esteban, who is saved by a knock at the door. Don Pablo has arrived to gift Nora some flowers as a thank you for helping him repair his relationship with his son in season one. Esteban is a little jealous of Don Pablo as his mother previously told him Don Pablo is who he should aspire to be like. His mom excitedly invites Don Pablo to join their dinner, much to Esteban’s dismay.

The resort is abuzz as everyone gets ready for Chad and Julia’s party, and Maximo tries to figure out how to clear Memo’s name. Sara tells Maximo she loves living with Julia, and isn’t prepared to return home until Nora is willing to accept her for who she is. Go Sara!! Meanwhile, Chad enlists Isabel to keep Kelly and Julia separated at the party.

Memo shows up to the party in a fancy new suit, only making Chad even more sure Memo is the mole. It turns out the suit is a hand-me-down, but Chad doesn’t know that. Hector, on the rebound in a big way, flirts with a married Kelly – who bounces between the guys table and the girls table, getting on everybody’s nerves. Tension builds between Chad and Julia as Kelly talks about things he’s never mentioned to Julia, and Maximo takes the opportunity to tip Memo off to Chad’s suspicions while everyone’s distracted.

Maximo sets Memo up to explain to Chad why he was talking to the reporter, but Memo gets nervous and makes the situation sound even worse. Is anyone at this party having a good time? I’m not sure. Sara and Kelly start drinking together, which can only lead to a mess..

While Esteban confronts his mother for constantly dragging him down in front of Nora, Don Pablo takes the opportunity to tell Nora he’s leaving Acapulco for good to be closer to his son and grandson. “Family is what’s most important,” Don Pablo tells her. This makes her think about Sara, and why she has not seen her daughter for a while.

Maximo confides in Isabel, who tells him that maybe Don Pablo is right: the answer is to resign from Las Colinas and come and work at the restaurant, which he earlier enjoyed and felt appreciated by Isabel’s family. But I feel Maximo would miss Las Colinas too much, it’s like his second home.

The party gets twisted further when Kelly blurts out to Julia that she’s not happy in her marriage, and Chad confronts Memo about being the mole. Memo vigorously denies the allegation and starts listing things he does know, such as Lupe doesn’t know how to swim, Beto was a teen popstar, and Diane had an affair. Oops, shouldn’t have mentioned that last one. Still nursing his emotional wounds, Hector confesses he had the affair with Diane. Chaos ensues.

Maximo notices Julia wearing the silver bracelet he intended to give her, and decides it’s a sign: He is meant to stay at Las Colinas, and he and Julia are meant to be. The two stare at each other, frozen, as the party goes to pieces around them. The two go outside where it’s quiet to talk, and Maximo reveals be bought the bracelet for her after they kissed, but threw it into the ocean once she and Chad got engaged. The two finally come clean on their feelings, but are interrupted by Isabel.

Back at the party, nobody is happy. Sara wants to go home. Memo feels guilt over Kelly kissing him. Kelly is drunk. Hector misses Diane. Chad turns his sights on Hector to be the mole, thinking he did it as revenge against Diane.. and Maximo backs him up. Ooh, next week’s episode is going to be interesting!
