Recap: The Blacklist - Season 10, Episode 2

In a vast casino, a woman reprimands a noisy poker player who loses. Despite being accompanied by a young mistress, the woman sarcastically reminds him that he's gambling with his wife's money. This woman has a thorough understanding of her clients and isn't afraid to be assertive to keep them in check.

The latest addition to the Blacklist in Season 10 is The Whaler. An employee of the casino informs her of suspicious private games and a $15 million line of credit for a non-existent client named Yao Liang. However, The Whaler remains unfazed by the man's threats and swiftly takes him down when they're alone in the elevator. She warns him not to cross her or risk the consequences.

Cooper meets with Red and tells him that Meera Malek's daughter has joined the Task Force. Red expresses his confidence that she will be a valuable asset, as evidenced by her mother's abilities. In a flashback, Siya learns of the Task Force's association with Raymond Reddington and remains determined to complete her mother's unfinished mission against Wujing.

Cooper receives an update from Red regarding Wujing's recent movements, revealing his frequent visits to various casinos around the world. Red suspects Wujing is collaborating with Anika de Beer, a freelancer who attracts wealthy gamblers to the casino tables. Red and Cooper are uncertain why Wujing is involved in these activities, but they believe that The Whaler is their best chance at locating him.

During a lighter conversation, Red becomes attentive upon learning that Agnes is being bullied at school. He offers to intervene, but Cooper reminds him that Agnes already has two parents who can handle the situation. Red appears irritated but not surprised since Cooper seems determined to keep Agnes away from him.

Siya is formally introduced to the Task Force, who gather to discuss their latest Blacklister, Anika de Beer, also known as The Whaler. Cooper informs the team that Anika is an internationally recognized figure in the casino world, notorious for bringing some of the wealthiest individuals to the table, which earned her the nickname The Whaler.

The team suspects that Wujing is collaborating with The Whaler to target these high-stakes gamblers and get to the table. They discover that The Whaler has organized a private game of Texas Hold'em in Sydney, Australia, and Wujing's recent activities suggest that he is involved. Interestingly, two seats remain open at the poker table, making the timing highly suspicious.

Red finally meets Siya when he joins the Task Force for dinner. He reveals that he knew her mother and admits that Meera did not hold him in high regard. Red attempts to be friendly with Siya, but she quickly establishes a professional tone, making it clear that their relationship is strictly business.

Red briefs Ressler and Siya on a risky plan, in which he has created two fake identities to enter a high-stakes poker game monitored by The Whaler. Red wants Siya to sit at the table, with Ressler as her banker. Ressler protests, claiming that Siya is not ready for the job, but Red insists that she is the key to their success. After Red leaves, Siya confronts Ressler about his comments, but he warns her about Red's willingness to cross the line and puts her safety at risk.

Despite the warning, Siya excels in the scouting match, and The Whaler invites her and Ressler to a poker game in Sydney. Meanwhile, Red can't shake Cooper's comments about Agnes and ends up watching her soccer practice with binoculars. When Agnes gets into an argument with another girl, Red struggles with what to do next.

In Sydney, Ressler remains hesitant about Siya joining the Task Force, fearing that she will get hurt like her mother and Elizabeth Keen did. However, Siya is determined to prove him wrong.

During their conversation, Red and Cooper exchange updates on the progress of the agents. Red takes the opportunity to ask Cooper if he knows anything about Phil and Justine Rutherman, who happen to be the parents of Agnes' bully. Cooper is unaware of who they are, but Red informs him about their connection to the situation. Cooper expresses his disapproval of Red getting involved in Agnes' business and warns him to stay out of it. Will Red listen to his advice? Or will he continue to meddle?

Siya and Ressler meet with The Whaler to scout out the casino and spot several familiar faces. While Siya is playing, Ressler notices a suspicious man entering the room who seems to be surveying the area. However, before he can take a picture of the man, The Whaler catches on to what he's doing.

Ressler contacts Dembe, and they discover that the man is one of Wujing's associates. However, The Whaler intercepts Ressler in the bathroom, and her bodyguards take him to a private suite to be interrogated. Meanwhile, The Whaler takes Siya out of her game, and as she leaves in the elevator, Wujing arrives at the casino.

The Whaler's henchmen demand answers from the agents, binding their wrists. Ressler reveals their true identities as FBI and MI6 undercover agents, and they quickly begin to physically assault him. However, as the men continue to strike Ressler, Siya secretly removes her earring, revealing a lock pick that allows her to escape her restraints. But Siya doesn't stop there - she showcases her impressive combat skills by taking down each of the guards with her bare hands. Ressler regains consciousness and admits that he underestimated Siya's capabilities, but he's now aware of her true talents.

Ressler and Siya brief the Task Force on their progress and discover that Wujing is rigging his poker games by selecting players who intentionally lose to him. The Whaler is profiting from Wujing's illegal activities by receiving a cut of his earnings. Cooper contacts Red to inform him of their findings, but Red is already at the Sydney casino.

Red asks The Whaler to let him join the game, but all seats are occupied. He offers her a bag of diamonds worth $6 million to beat Wujing's offer and secure a place at the table. The Whaler accepts Red's offer, and he proceeds to play against Wujing. Dembe contacts the Australian authorities to alert them to Wujing's location, and the police arrive just as Red wins the game.

Wujing, The Whaler, and his associates flee, leaving Ressler and Siya to assess the situation. After the successful mission, Ressler welcomes Siya to the team, and they both hope she won't be dragged into the Task Force's chaos. Red meets with a manager to pay off his debts in exchange for transferring Mr. Rutherman and his family to Florida.

Cooper confronts Red about his involvement with the Rutherman family, and they discuss Red's desire to protect Agnes. Cooper encourages Red to let Agnes face her own challenges, but it remains to be seen if Red will follow Cooper's advice.
