Review: Law & Order SVU - Season 24, Episode 17

Based on Churlish's conduct in this episode, it appears that Benson's relationship with her will encounter significant challenges, which is particularly difficult when starting a new job.

Antagonizing your leader so early in your tenure is unlikely to gain you any favors, especially given the existing tension between Churlish and Muncy due to their divergent work styles. Nonetheless, Churlish's actions and Muncy's response set the groundwork for a potential future rapport between them.

Muncy's arrival at Law & Order: SVU brought an uncontrollable and often unrestrained team member, and now this behavior has led to unnecessary departmental drama.

Without even beginning to address her issues with Churlish, Muncy becomes upset when her brother becomes a suspect. Although Muncy is typically a passionate and vocal member of the team, her desire to protect her brother threatens to affect the case.

Even Velasco, who works well with Muncy, advises her to temper her behavior. He attempts to persuade her that following protocol and taking a step back is not a personal attack.

Muncy's stubbornness and refusal to consider the bigger picture only increase the likelihood of Teddy's involvement in the crime. Therefore, it is a tremendous relief when he is the one who ensures Churlish's safety and prevents any harm while she is vulnerable.

Although "Lime Chaser" appears to revolve around Churlish's quest to prove herself, the story ultimately focuses on how Muncy learns to trust Churlish and becomes aware of her brother's close ties to the situation.

Benson does a great job of being firm but fair with her latest recruits, though sometimes it felt like she was a kindergarten teacher trying to retain control of the room.

Churlish's introduction to the department has resulted in her making numerous enemies. She is determined to achieve her life goal, and nothing and no one will deter her from achieving it.

Because of her refusal to collaborate, Churlish ends up on the wrong side of the case and is nearly assaulted. Fortunately, her team treats everyone as equals and comes to her rescue, ensuring her safety.

This case and Benson's stern warning may be the wakeup call Churlish requires to steer her back on the right track. It remains to be seen whether she will remain with SVU or not, but I hope she does - Benson is exactly the mentor she needs.
