Recap: The Mandalorian - Season 3, Episode 7

In this week's episode, the entire Mandalorian alliance journeyed to their home planet, Mandalore, to assess its habitability. However, upon arrival, they encountered a fierce adversary.

In the bustling city planet of Coruscant, a supporter of the Empire named Elia Kang ventures into a suspicious alleyway and uses a droid to communicate with Moff Gideon. Kang updates Gideon on the recent events in Nevarro and clarifies that it was not the New Republic who intervened, but instead Mandalorians, specifically Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin working together. Meanwhile, Gideon leads a group of Stormtroopers dressed in darker uniforms through a hallway and enters the Shadow Council. The council consists of other Imperial warlords engaged in a dispute. Gideon questions Commander Pellaeon about the absence of Grand Admiral Thrawn, whom he had promised would be present at the council. Gideon then discloses to the council members that the Mandalorians are mobilizing to recapture Mandalore. This news immediately silences the ongoing disagreements, and the warlords agree unanimously that the elimination of the Mandalorians is a prerequisite to the Empire's resurgence. Gideon makes several requests, including three Praetorian guards, reinforcements of TIE interceptors, and bombers, and the warlords comply.

The planet Nevarro is under reconstruction after the pirate king Gorian Shard's attempted invasion when High Magistrate Greef Karga is alerted by his droid of an incoming Imperial ship. However, Karga swiftly determines that it's a light cruiser bearing the sigil of the Mythosaur, indicating that the Mandalorians are on board, coming to Nevarro's aid. As the fleet descends upon the Lava Flats, where the Children of the Watch have established themselves, the Armorer and the rest of the Watch greet the new arrivals. During the meeting, tension arises between Paz Vizsla and Axe Woves. Karga presents Mando with a fancy bottle from Coruscant and invites him to his office to show him the upgraded IG-11 droid, now being operated like a machine by an Anzellan. Karga declares that the droid is now the superior IG-12 model and puts Grogu in control despite Mando's objections. Grogu happily plays with the "Yes" and "No" buttons installed in the droid. While wandering through the market, Grogu eats food from a vendor's stand, and Mando has to pay for it while trying to dissuade his mischievous son from continuing to misbehave.

Bo-Katan addresses the assembled Mandalorians at the Lava Flats during the night, outlining their plan to reclaim Mandalore by sending a scouting team to survey the land from the upper atmosphere. Due to magnetic interference, communication with the surface is impossible, and Bo-Katan requests volunteers for the dangerous mission. Mando and Grogu are the first to join, followed by Vizsla, Reeves, Woves, the Armorer, and others from both factions. The fleet departs for Mandalore, with a small ship landing on the planet's surface after the scouting team goes ahead. As they traverse the desolate terrain, the group encounters a strange land ship and draws their weapons, only to be greeted by individuals who recognize Bo-Katan's voice. Three of them remove their Mandalorian helmets and pledge allegiance to Lady Bo-Katan of Clan Kryze.

During their dinner on the ship, the new group's captain tells them about the Night of a Thousand Tears, where the attackers bombed Mandalore twice to crush any resistance. However, Bo-Katan corrects him, saying she surrendered and gave the Darksaber to Moff Gideon to save her people, only for him to betray her. The Armorer reveals that their guild survived by hiding in Concordia, while Bo-Katan acknowledges that the Mandalorians' own warring nature has led to their destruction. Mando later apologizes to Bo-Katan for doubting her motives and pledges to serve her because of her honor, not her bloodline or ownership of the Darksaber.

The Armorer suggests taking the sick and weak members back to the fleet for treatment, while Bo-Katan orders the remaining healthy members to help search for the Great Forge of Mandalore. The Captain suggests bypassing the search and heading straight to the Forge. As the sick are escorted away, Axe Woves and Paz Vizsla engage in a game of space chess that turns into a physical fight. Bo-Katan insists they cannot be stopped, but Grogu intervenes with the IG-12 droid body and discourages them from fighting. Bo-Katan commends Mando for training his ward well, but he clarifies that he had nothing to do with it.

A member of the scouting party notices movement in a nearby rock formation, and a huge creature emerges and attacks the ship. The Mandalorians rush to don their helmets and disembark, but the creature strikes the ship with its tail, killing some but sparing others. The Captain leads them to safety in a cave, but they soon face another threat: Stormtroopers in Beskar armor, who attack them with blaster fire. Paz Vizsla fights back, providing cover for Axe Woves to go for help. The Mandalorians pursue the Stormtroopers into a facility, but a shutter falls, separating some of them from the rest. Mando and two others are left outside to fend off the attackers, but they are soon overwhelmed and captured. Moff Gideon appears, thanking Bo-Katan for gathering the Mandalorians in one place for him to wipe out. He reveals that he has created a new sect of warriors in Beskar armor and demands the Darksaber from Bo-Katan. She tries to escape, slicing a hole in the wall, while Vizsla stays behind to fight the Stormtroopers.

Paz Vizsla bravely engages in combat with the Stormtroopers, taking down several of them. When his machine laser overheats and malfunctions, he resorts to using his fists and imposing size to continue the fight. However, his efforts are in vain against three soldiers in crimson armor who arrive with unique weaponry. These soldiers are the Elite Praetorian Guards, originally serving as personal bodyguards to Supreme Leader Snoke, and wielding Bilari electro-chain whips and electro-bisentos, which were designed to counter lightsabers.

Despite his courage, Vizsla is no match for the Praetorian Guards, who repeatedly strike him with their deadly weapons until he falls to the ground, riddled with wounds. The Mandalorians are in for a challenging battle against these powerful opponents, and the finale next week will reveal their fate, as well as that of Mando.
