The finale commences right after Bo-Katan slices an opening in the door with the Darksaber and flees with the rest of the Mandalorians. While fighting off their pursuers, she informs Alex Woves about the latest situation - Moff Gideon is still alive and using Mandalore's resources to bolster his power. Bo-Katan instructs Woves to gather all the fighters and utilize the capital ship as a diversion before the attackers reach them. As Woves heads towards the clouds, his communication with Bo-Katan is lost, and she buys them time by setting off a bomb and thwarting the advancing Stormtroopers.
In the meantime, Mando is being taken away to face an unknown fate when he decides to resist. Stripped of his weapons and relying solely on his fists, he manages to land a few blows until a Stormtrooper begins strangling him with a cord while attempting to grab his blaster. Just as the soldier is about to overpower Mando, Grogu wielding an IG-12 arrives and punishes the Stormtrooper while Mando knocks him out. After helping Mando up, Grogu understands that they can no longer run from Gideon and must confront him. Together, they set out to defeat the evil Moff.
Mando contacts Bo-Katan, who informs him that she needs to get her troops to safety. The Captain of the ship they met in Episode 7 offers to transport them to a secure location. As TIE fighters swarm to attack the Mandalorian fleet, Bo-Katan and her team escape from the cave using their jetpacks.
Moff Gideon observes a live map of the base as Mando and Grogu approach him, determined to defeat the enemy himself. Recognizing the difficulty of finding Gideon in such a vast area, Mando enlists the help of the nearby R5 droid and requests a schematic map of the base. After some reluctance, the droid uploads the map and begins deactivating the barrier laser shields one by one, working remotely with Mando to bring down the shields and defeat the Stormtroopers in waves. The intense scene resembles a video game, with the enemies becoming more challenging as more shields come down.
Mando faces off against the new and improved Stormtroopers, who utilize shields, blasters, and laser staffs, while R5 contends with a pesky mouse droid. However, despite the distraction, R5 manages to bring down the final shield, allowing Mando to defeat the last two Stormtrooper guards. As a horde of mouse droids swarm to capture R5, the helpful droid takes flight with its jet pack, while Mando continues on to the command center with Grogu.
Meanwhile, Woves contacts the capital ship and orders all available soldiers to assist Bo-Katan. He remains behind to handle the oncoming TIE fighters while the Mandalorians use their jetpacks to fly towards the smaller ships. The enemy raiders manage to fire multiple laser rounds at the Mandalorian ship, but the large guns on board successfully take down several TIE fighters.
The Captain leads Bo-Katan and the rest of the Mandalorians into a cave filled with lush greenery, which had been planted by the remnants of Mandalorians to create food caches and underground hideouts. These plants had remained dormant for centuries, and when the planet was abandoned, they began to sprout, proving that Mandalore was not cursed or toxic and could support life. Suddenly, the Armorer alerts Bo-Katan that reinforcements have arrived, and she leads her people to take back their planet from the invaders once and for all. The Armorer and her crew join Bo-Katan and the rest, and the entire Mandalorian army descends towards the advancing Stormtroopers, preparing for a fierce battle. Bo-Katan wields the Darksaber, while the Armorer clangs her tools and the rest of the crew draw their blasters. When the two forces collide, the Mandalorians fight fiercely, hacking and slashing their way through the opposition.
While on their way to the command center, Mando and Grogu come across several incubation chambers containing rows of clones. Mando explains to Grogu that these are not his clones but rather Moff Gideon's. Despite this, the child is frightened, and as Mando fidgets with the control board, one of the clones awakens, causing Grogu to become even more afraid. However, Mando manages to shut down the system just in time before all the clones explode, thus destroying Gideon's evil experiment.
Upon entering a large room, Gideon's menacing voice echoes through the space, and Mando instructs Grogu to find a hiding place. Suddenly, the black-armored Gideon appears, cursing Mando for destroying his clones. Gideon reveals that he was creating the clones with the power of the Force, a power that he lacked but was able to harness through Grogu's blood. A fierce battle ensues between Mando and Gideon, but the Mandalorian soon finds himself overpowered by the Moff. To make matters worse, the three Praetorian guards who killed Paz Vizsla arrive and join the fight, forcing Mando to defend himself against all four attackers. However, the guards' electro-bisentos act as tasers, causing Mando to fall to one knee. In response, Grogu uses IG-12's "No" speech button to protest, and the guards then turn their attention to the child. Mando cries out in fear for Grogu and tries to give chase, but Gideon's missiles and cord wire knock him down once again.
While trying to escape the Praetorian Guards, Grogu jumps out of the IG-12 and tries to evade their attacks, but it's clear that he can't take on all three alone. Meanwhile, back in the large room, Gideon repeatedly strikes Mando, who crawls away in retreat. Bo-Katan intervenes and engages Gideon in combat, allowing Mando to go after his son. As Gideon and Bo-Katan cross blades, Mando arrives just in time to save Grogu from the Praetorian Guards. Together, they fight off the elite soldiers, with Grogu using the Force to disarm them while Mando shoots at their vulnerable spots with his blaster. Despite taking many hits, the dad and son duo prevail in the end.
Bo-Katan is in a dire situation as she's repeatedly thrown to the ground. In her final attempt to strike Gideon with the Darksaber, he brings her down to one knee, crushes the saber, and removes her helmet. Woves informs all the Mandalorians that he's going to crash the capital ship into the base to take it out and orders everyone to evacuate immediately. As Gideon approaches Bo-Katan to finish her off, she declares, “Mandalorians are stronger together,” just as Mando arrives, firing at the villain. While Woves and the other Mandalorians flee from the crashing ship, Mando, Bo-Katan, and Grogu are left to fight Gideon. Grogu uses the Force to throw the two-headed bisento down a crevice as the ship collides and ignites a massive fire. Gideon is shown to be engulfed in the flames, but what happened to our heroes? To their surprise, Grogu shields them all with the Force, protecting them from the raging fire until it subsides. After the fire goes out, Grogu collapses on the floor, exhausted.
Later, The Armorer proceeds to anoint Paz Vizsla's son, Ragnar, into the Creed by dipping a vessel into the Living Waters while he repeats the Words of the Way. Mando brings Grogu over and places him on the steps of the Waters, requesting the Armorer to "add him to the song." However, she refuses, citing Grogu's young age and inability to speak the Creed. Mando then suggests vouching for Grogu's apprenticeship and promotion from Foundling, but the issue is that his parents are unknown. In a moment we've been waiting for three seasons, Din Djarin admits that he's willing to adopt Grogu as his son, solidifying their familial bond. Grogu is then added to the song as a Mandalorian apprentice, and the Armorer names him Din Grogu. She charges Din with taking his child on missions to train him in the Ways of the Creed, just as Din had been trained.
When Grogu touches the Living Waters, he senses them pulsating, and the Mythosaur briefly opens its eyes deep in the depths. The Mandalore banner, bearing the Mythosaur sigil, is chosen, and Bo-Katan approaches the Great Forge, lighting it once again to usher in a new era for the Mandalorian planet. Axe Woves cheers for Mandalore, and the rest of the residents join in unison to support their new leader. Bo-Katan has brought a new age to the planet.
The two Dins, Grogu and Djarin, travel to a planet where Captain Carson Teva and the New Republic officers are based at the Adelphi stronghold. Teva expresses gratitude to Mando for getting rid of Gideon while Grogu enjoys some crackers at the bar, captivated by the head of an assassin droid that resembles IG-12. Mando requests to work as an independent contractor for the New Republic, taking on cases as they come while being mindful of Grogu's presence. He knows it's an unofficial arrangement and Teva seems to have already made up his mind. Mando also asks for the assassin droid's head for spare parts.
Later, on Nevarro, Greef Karga thanks Mando for eliminating Moff Gideon, and awards him a small cabin outside the city where he and Grogu can unwind between missions. Mando, in turn, presents Karga with a gift – the assassin droid, now reprogrammed as the IG-11 and serving as the new Marshal of Nevarro. The Anzellans proudly introduce the IG-11 to the citizens, and Karga joins in the applause.
At the end of Season 3, Mando and Grogu are relaxing at their cabin. Mando watches with delight as Grogu uses the Force to lift a frog and drop it into the water. This is a stark contrast to the end of Season 2, where Grogu was taken away by Luke Skywalker, making this the first time they have had a happy ending. Father and son are reunited, evil has been defeated, and Mando can finally take a much-needed break. Until next season!
