In the aftermath of Logan Roy's death, the fourth episode of the series, "Honeymoon States," begins with his loved ones coping with the loss. Kendall, having likely cried heavily, attempts to compose himself and prepares to attend his father's memorial service. Shiv's doctor calls to let her know that everything is healthy with her pregnancy (surprise!) and to arrange a 20 week scan. Upon arriving at Logan's apartment, Kendall finds that Roman and Shiv are already present. The service is attended by most of the executives from Waystar Royco, who have come to pay their respects. Kendall is surprised to see Marcia Roy at the house, as her marriage with Logan was troubled prior to his passing. However, she assures him that she and Logan were close.
Marcia's explanation fails to convince Kendall, and he joins his siblings, where they briefly joke about Logan and Marcia's marriage before checking in with each other. While Kendall and Shiv are still grappling with their grief, Roman admits that he has thought so much about Logan's death that he has already gone through the stages of grief. However, as the one who was likely closest to Logan, Roman may still be in denial about his father's passing. Regardless, the siblings must put aside their emotions when Lukas Matsson contacts them to discuss the details of Waystar's sale to GoJo.
After the call with Lukas Matsson, the siblings are left with an ultimatum to select an interim CEO for Waystar in order to finalize the deal. However, Matsson refuses to speak with them directly. Meanwhile, the Old Guard, consisting of Gerri, Frank, Tom, and Karl, discuss potential candidates for the interim CEO position. They rule out Logan's children and suggest Gerri and Karl as top contenders. A meeting is scheduled for later that day for the board members to make their decision. However, matters are complicated when Frank discovers a letter from Logan that appoints Kendall as his successor.
Karl suggests destroying the letter, but Gerri insists on informing the children about its existence. Kendall, Shiv, and Roman are brought into a room and informed of the letter, with Kendall being chosen by Logan as his successor. However, they speculate that the letter is from around four years ago, and Kendall's name is either underlined or crossed out. Furthermore, the letter was not presented to Logan's lawyers and is therefore not legally binding. The revelation causes disagreements and arguing among the siblings.
Meanwhile, Connor makes an attempt to purchase Logan's house from Marcia, who is willing to sell it at the right price. Shiv and Roman are not happy with Kendall as he tries to position himself as the interim CEO. Tom also comes to the realization that Logan's death means he no longer has any influence within the company, and he tries to gain favor with Kendall, Roman, and Shiv, despite his impending divorce from Shiv. Kendall, in the meantime, persuades Stewy to support him during the board's vote for the CEO position. However, Kendall needs to convince his siblings to maintain control of the company within the family until the sale is completed.
Kendall is finally able to persuade Roman and Shiv to have a conversation about him potentially taking on the role of CEO. Since the discovery of the letter, Shiv and Roman have been giving Kendall the cold shoulder. They are disappointed in him for considering taking over their father's company, especially after attempting to send Logan to prison multiple times. However, Kendall appears to have convinced Stewy to support him during the board meeting. Finally, Kendall turns to his siblings and urges them to have an open discussion, given that they have become closer in the past few months and have supported each other through the aftermath of their father's passing.
After being appointed joint-CEOs of Waystar, Kendall and Roman are quickly summoned to a meeting with Karolina and Hugo to strategize their announcement. One plan is to highlight their capabilities and close relationship with their father, while the other plan involves painting Logan as unfit and Kendall and Roman as already being in charge. Roman finds the latter plan distasteful, as he had grown closer to his father recently. However, Kendall, channeling his father's tactics, orders Hugo to execute the plan secretly, leveraging information about Hugo's daughter's insider training as blackmail. In this move, Kendall proves himself to be more like Logan than anyone had previously thought.
