Jamie and Roy are up bright and early at 4 a.m. as Jamie needs to squeeze in an extra workout session in his quest to surpass Zava. Meanwhile, Nate is also up early to strategize for a match against Zava and the Greyhounds.
Ted wakes up to Sassy preparing to leave and takes a chance by asking her out on a date, but Sassy declines, pointing out that Ted is currently a mess. They agree to remain friends instead. As Sassy leaves in her Uber, Nate drives by but fails to notice Jamie and Roy training in the park, with Jamie vomiting from overexertion while Roy enjoys a breakfast sandwich.
At Keeley's office, Rebecca is expressing her frustrations about Rupert when Shandy enters to express her gratitude for the opportunity given to her. Shandy suggests an exciting new promotion idea for Bantr, which involves featuring the single players on the team. As the app is anonymous, users might end up chatting with a professional footballer. Rebecca inquires about the participants, and Shandy reveals that Sam has opted out of the campaign, possibly because he is no longer single. Before leaving, Shandy's spot is taken by Barbara, who asks for two tickets to the West Ham vs. Richmond game for their boss, Jack Danvers. Rebecca secures them seats in her private box, which leaves Barbara elated.
Higgins is listening as Beard and Roy share their game plan, acknowledging Nate's tactical prowess on the field and their inferiority to him. They decide to use Nate's false nine strategy, which they believe he won't anticipate. However, this involves asking Zava to drop back to midfield, leading to an argument. Ted enters and diffuses the situation before calling a Diamond Dogs meeting. However, Ted is still bothered by Sassy's comment about him being a mess, and Beard confirms that it's true.
The experts are divided on who will win between Richmond and West Ham, but Zava enters with wise words, even convincing Zoreaux to change his name's pronunciation. Jamie agrees that they should not be concerned with the experts' opinions, and Isaac reminds them of their ultimate goal by pointing to the 'Believe' sign above the door. However, the team is startled when half of the sign falls, revealing that Ted never replaced it after it was damaged last season, and never informed the team about it. Trent Crimm, sitting in the corner, has found his next investigation.
Upon Nate's return to Taste of Athens, Jade remains unimpressed, but the restaurant's manager, Derek, is thrilled to see him. Derek offers to comp the lunch that Nate ordered for his entire team, but Jade remains indifferent, reflecting the feelings of everyone.
Shandy's advertisements are successful, featuring Colin, Dani, and Zoreaux (now called Van Damme - thanks to Zava's encouragement that he could be anyone). When Jamie steps up to the bench, Shandy can't help but admire him. Keeley attempts to dissuade Shandy, calling him cocky, self-centered, selfish, and promiscuous. However, she convinces herself that these traits are no longer applicable.
Trent has identified the perpetrator of the destruction of the 'Believe' sign, and it's no surprise that it was Nate. The team has obtained the footage, and while Beard and Roy want to use it to motivate the team with anger, Ted disagrees. Meanwhile, Nate is feeling anxious about seeing Ted again for the first time since his departure. He even feels like he owes him an apology. Rupert assures him that he has done nothing wrong and only needs to greet him with a handshake before beating him.
Rebecca goes to check on Ted, who is still upset about his ex-wife dating his former marriage counselor. She acknowledges that he is indeed a mess, but she advises him not to dwell too much on Sassy's comments.
On game day, Keeley is feeling nervous about meeting her boss for the first time and runs to the bathroom. Meanwhile, Rebecca bumps into Rupert and Bex, which doesn't start her day off well. Keeley's day isn't going great either as she finds herself unprepared for her period. Luckily, the person in the next stall with fabulous shoes passes her a tampon under the wall.
In the elevator, Ted and Nate have an awkward encounter where Nate tries to apologize before being interrupted by Rupert's call. Keeley meets her boss, Jack, who turns out to be a woman - the same one who gave her a tampon. At the bar, Shandy notes Barbara's obsession with Rebecca.
In this crucial match for the top spot in the league, Ted and Nate exchange a silent greeting as the teams enter the pitch. The first half is closely contested, with West Ham scoring one goal just before Nate pulls off one of his remarkable tactics to make it 2-0 at halftime.
During the break, Rebecca is anxiously waiting for Ted in the hallway and she's in a state of panic. Ted walks into another surprise as the team is in an uproar after watching the footage of Nate destroying the 'Believe' sign. They're furious, and that anger carries over onto the pitch. The game ends in utter chaos, with penalties, red cards, and ejections leaving only a handful of players on the field by the time West Ham emerges victorious at 4-1.
As the final whistle blows, Nate refuses to shake Ted's hand, and Rebecca quickly exits to avoid Rupert's taunts. She discovers something even more satisfying, however, when she catches Rupert cheating on Bex with his assistant. As they say.. once a cheater, always a cheater.
Beard and Roy are almost provoking Ted's anger by expecting him to lash out after showing him the thumb drive with the footage. However, Ted doesn't react in his usual fashion and instead takes the drive quietly. He leaves them with an optimistic comment, "shake it off fellas, a lot of football left this season," which is somehow worse than getting yelled at. In Nate's post-match interview, he's asked why he snubbed Ted's handshake at the end of the game, and Nate brushes it off as if he just forgot in his excitement before quickly leaving to find Ted. Nate catches up to Ted as he's about to board the bus, but he's interrupted by Rupert's assistant who has given him a prestigious invitation to a party at Bones and Honey. By the time the conversation is over, Ted has already left.
Rebecca confronts Rupert about his affair with his assistant, warning him to end the extramarital relationship. Meanwhile, Keeley apologizes to Jack for the team's unusual conduct, and Shandy enters the room with good news: Bantr is trending thanks to his new bio line, "Wanna fuck a rich celebrity?" Keeley is enraged by this, as it goes against the values of Bantr, and demands that Shandy changes it immediately, regardless of the fact that subscriber numbers have tripled.
In the meantime, Nate shows up at the post-party where Rupert is still acting unfaithfully with his assistant, and they even set up a date for Nate with Anastasia. Roy goes to retrieve Jamie for one final training session before dinner, and Jamie is eager and ready, running out of the house with his headlights on.
Ted contacts Michelle, who expresses her condolences to Ted for his loss before he voices his dissatisfaction with her dating Jacob without giving him any notice. He needed to be honest and clear about his feelings. No matter what happens, they must raise Henry together and remain connected. Ted confesses that he still loves her and Henry, and he cherishes their family, regardless of what it looks like.
