In the previous episode, Ted and the Greyhounds embarked on personal journeys in Amsterdam. Ted devised a new playing style, hoping to revive the team's performance, while Rebecca experienced a romantic night and Roy and Jamie learned more about each other. The team bonded over their experiences and returned to the pitch.
Now back in London, Jack impresses Keeley with his gift of an original signed copy of Sense and Sensibility, while Roy uses Jamie to train by cycling around the city. Nate is still seeing Jade, but his focus shifts to Sam's restaurant, where he needs a table for his father's visit.
Ted introduces the team to Total Football, a playing style first used by the Netherlands in the 70s, emphasizing the importance of trust and teamwork. The team is initially hesitant, but they agree to give it a try in their upcoming match. Meanwhile, Keeley worries about revealing the depth of her relationship with Jack to her colleague Barbara, and Nate seeks advice from Siri about whether a girl likes him.
At the Crown and Anchor, Ted and Beard face pressure from fans to win, and they invite three dedicated supporters to watch practice. Roy takes charge of training and pushes the team to their limits, preparing them for the upcoming match against Arsenal.
Keeley is feeling uneasy after her encounter with Barbara, and she is on edge when Jack visits. She is unsure whether to put up her privacy screen, which would block the team and Barbara from seeing them, as she is uncertain about the seriousness of their relationship. However, Jack reveals that he is serious about Keeley, and she happily announces it to the team.
Rebecca and Keeley are having dinner, and Rebecca is sharing her magical night in Amsterdam. Keeley is surprised that Rebecca and the guy she was with didn't sleep together. Keeley then shares about her relationship with Jack, and Rebecca warns her about being love-bombed, as she experienced it with Rupert. Keeley insists everything is fine, but they later discover that Jack had paid for their dinner without Keeley's knowledge.
At Nate's sister's party, he is still unsure about his feelings for Jade. His mother and sister show him the personalized map that Nate's father had used to ask his mother out on their first date. The next day, Nate attempts to talk to Jade but ends up running to the bathroom without saying anything.
Meanwhile, Sam visits Ola's restaurant and finds the kitchen staff watching the Prime Minister's speech about turning away refugees. Sam tweets in the hopes of changing public opinion.
It's time for the team to experiment with swapping positions, and the first to try are Will and Beard. Roy distributes cards to each player with the name of the person they'll exchange positions with. Jamie is puzzled when his card only has his name written twice. He asks Ted, who explains that they assumed he would prefer to stick to what he does best - scoring goals. Unfortunately, things don't go well, and Isaac's wild corner kick breaks Rebecca's window, followed by Leslie's tea being spilled.
Sam tweeted something that caught the attention of the PM, who responded harshly. Trent expresses doubt about the effectiveness of Ted's strategy to change their entire approach this late in the season. Nonetheless, Ted understands that they have little to lose and decides to persevere with it.
Keeley enters an office adorned with daisies, her favorite flower, and Ted proposes a new plan to introduce total football to the team. With Roy's input, they engage in a half-speed scrimmage, wearing red strings tied around their lower regions, but it proves to be a disaster. Jamie almost loses a valuable body part, disappointing Roy.
Meanwhile, Nate completes his grand gesture, a popup box similar to the one he made for his sister, and Sam responds to the Prime Minister with a scathing tweet. Keeley and Jack discuss their love bombing situation and come to an understanding, while Nate secures a date despite his box getting run over, though some still think he doesn't deserve it.
The Prime Minister's supporters vandalize Sam's restaurant, destroying everything and spray-painting the last line of his tweet response to the Prime Minister on the wall. Sam expresses his anger to the team, aware that the same people who currently support him will turn on him the moment he makes mistakes on the pitch. When his father arrives, Sam breaks down, and they have a heart-to-heart conversation. His father reminds him that the best way to infuriate the people who did this to him is to forgive them and move on.
The Richmond vs Arsenal match turns out to be a complete disaster. At halftime, Ted reveals the origin of his iconic mustache, which apparently comes from the Blue Collar Comedy tour. During his speech, Jamie suggests a brilliant idea - they should stop playing for him and instead, play through him. Dani emphasizes the importance of sacrifice, and Jamie agrees to sacrifice his own personal glory for the good of the team, even though that isn't the fourth secret number. Despite losing the game, they manage to show signs of improvement, thanks to the Lasso Way, as confirmed by Trent Crimm.
Nate and Jade go on their date, while Keeley takes Jack to A Taste of Athens. Meanwhile, Sam takes his father to the restaurant and is pleasantly surprised to find the entire team working hard to fix the place up, including Bumbercatch fixing the neon sign and Ola Obisanya prepping dinner with Sam in the kitchen. The team's hard work leaves Ola seeing his name in lights.
