On Succession, the day of the election is fast approaching, but a significant partnership may disintegrate even before the votes are tallied. In episode 7 of Season 4, Kendall informs Shiv of a new poll showing Jimenez leading Mencken by four points on the eve of the election, setting a positive tone for their pre-election party that evening. Tom also gifts Shiv a scorpion encased in glass, which he intended as a joke, but Shiv fails to find it amusing. In the meantime, Kendall's ex-wife Rava reveals to him that their daughter Sophie was subjected to racial bullying by an individual wearing a T-shirt in support of ATN anchor Mark Ravenhead. Initially, Kendall tries to blame Rava, but she quickly turns the tables on him by accusing him of operating a racist news organization. Although Kendall claims that he will do anything to protect his daughter, the question remains whether he would actually follow through.
During breakfast, Roman meets with Kendall, Shiv, and Connor, attempting to uncover negative information on Matsson. Connor expresses his desire to have Logan's funeral last no more than 90 minutes and wants to solidify the event's plans. They are uncertain about who should give the eulogy, so they postpone making a decision. Kendall inquires whether he can invite Shiv's ex, Nate, to the party, as he holds a high position in the Jimenez campaign and could assist in their plans for the GoJo deal. Shiv agrees to the invitation but promptly informs Matsson about the matter, urging him to attend the event to smooth things over. Meanwhile, Shiv and Tom exchange suggestive messages, while Tom pretends to be emotional as he dismisses a group of Waystar employees over Zoom, tasking Greg with executing the layoffs. Greg concludes the meeting without unmuting the dismissed employees, claiming that it is a sorrowful day for Waystar when really he doesn't care at all.
At the party, the caterers are garnishing miniature hamburgers with miniature American flags, and Tom is feeling drained due to the hectic election preparations and sex. His demeanor declines even more when Shiv informs him of Nate's impending arrival, resulting in a strained greeting when Nate arrives. Mencken's team is aware of their unfavorable polling numbers, so they urge Roman to convince Connor to abandon his candidacy since his one percent could tip the scales in their favor. Connor refuses, prompting Roman to suggest that Mencken could offer him an ambassadorship in Mogadishu. However, Connor declines, preferring a comfortable position at the UN instead. Kendall delivers a speech commemorating Logan, acknowledging the importance of history and the ability to shape it before asking for a moment of silence. Suddenly, Matsson bursts in with his GoJo cohorts, Oskar and Ebba, donning a shiny jacket.
Shiv feigns ignorance regarding Matsson's visit, and he admires her home, inquiring who will receive it in the divorce. Although Shiv and Tom find this amusing, Matsson doesn't share their sense of humor. He pulls Shiv aside, and she provides him with guidance on how to act and who to speak with. Matsson gets it, promising not to yell "People are data" or "dip his dick in the guac." Connor and his advisor Maxim Pierce reject the notion of Mogadishu and both Slovenia and Slovakia, with Connor remarking, "I think I'm a no on the Slos." However, he becomes interested when Roman mentions Oman, dubbing it "a wealthy man's Yemen." Nate informs Matsson that Jimenez is anxious about who will control the customer data once GoJo obtains Waystar, and Matsson assures him that he's a superior option to the "failsons," Ken and Roman. Matsson also expresses a desire to make changes at ATN, as he glances over at Tom from across the room. Nate then expresses his condolences to Kendall, but Kendall quickly pivots to criticizing the GoJo deal, claiming that it's "headed to the woodshed."
Shiv compliments Matsson on his networking skills, but also expresses her desire for a significant role in the new company. Matsson promises to consider it, but Roman informs Kendall that Matsson had sent his blood to Ebba. Kendall attempts to involve Nate in the situation, but he declines and makes it clear that he doesn't want to work with ATN. Meanwhile, Connor tries to persuade Willa to move to Oman, and Greg impresses Oskar and Ebba by discussing the number of employees he has fired. Matsson expresses his desire to fire Ebba, but he can't because of her tenure. When Ebba gets upset and leaves, Kendall and Roman follow her and offer sympathy but also mention the blood incident. However, Ebba dismisses it as the least of Matsson's concerns and reveals Gojo's numbers in India are false.
Kendall and Roman rush to inform Shiv, who confronts Matsson about it. He admits that the India figures were mistakenly doubled. Shiv asks if he can fix it, to which he responds positively. Meanwhile, Roman tries to apologize to Gerri for firing her and explains that he was feeling impulsive, but Gerri has finally had enough of Roman's antics. She tells him she's hired a lawyer and demands a large payout; otherwise, she'll sue and expose his lewd texts. "I could've got you there," she tells him before walking away. Roman is upset by this and lashes out at Connor, who has decided to stay in the race. Roman insults him, saying that everyone in the room thinks he's a joke. Additionally, Matsson is criticizing New York City, and he and Kendall argue back and forth. Kendall calls his numbers "completely unbelievable," and Matsson responds by saying Kendall's numbers are "gay." Despite their bickering, they both agree that they love the deal and embrace at the end.
Shiv and Tom's relationship is strained, and they have a private conversation on the balcony. Shiv expresses her concern about Matsson and how his inflated numbers could harm her. Tom acknowledges that she's been spreading rumors about him potentially getting fired and reassures her that she will do whatever it takes to survive. However, Shiv is hurt by his lack of empathy and calls him a snake, pointing out how he betrayed her to side with Logan. Tom responds by accusing her of being selfish and Shiv accused him of marrying her for her DNA. The conversation becomes more heated as they bring up past betrayals and accusations with Tom telling her she is "maybe not a good person to have children" - not knowing Shiv is currently pregnant. Shiv tells Tom that he took away the last six months she could've had with her Dad, to which he responds by saying he tried to give her the approval she never received from Logan. In the end, Shiv tells Tom that she doesn't like him and doesn't care about him before walking back into the party. One hell of a scene.
As the night goes on, Kendall has a private chat with Frank, revealing the inflated India numbers and suggesting that Waystar acquire GoJo in a reverse Viking scenario. When Frank inquires about Shiv and Roman, Kendall dismisses them as not being his top priority. Later, Tom announces that he's going to bed and everyone needs to leave, but his command is met with laughter and ridicule as he walks away. Shiv expresses her disdain for Tom and Kendall and Roman agree with her. Roman offers to give the eulogy at Logan's funeral, and his offer is accepted. That night, Shiv and Tom sleep in separate beds, but despite being exhausted Tom lies awake, still thinking about the events of the party.
