Minx's Season 2 premiere opens with a startling headline: 'Joyce Prigger: The World's First Billionaire Pornographer.' The speed of her rise to such wealth raises eyebrows, especially considering how things were left at the end of Season 1.
However, it soon becomes clear that this headline and the image of a fur-clad Joyce on the red carpet are part of a nightmare that Doug experiences at the beginning of the new season. The comedy series was given a second chance by Starz after HBO Max canceled it, and this surreal dream sequence is what opens the sophomore run. As Doug wakes up in his office at Bottom Dollar, Tina reveals that he was calling out Joyce's name in his sleep again. Doug insists that his dreams about Joyce are not at all sensual, but Tina playfully wishes they were.
As Doug finds himself at a low point while working at Bottom Dollar—facing loan rejections and rejection from an old friend in the industry due to his changed appearance—Joyce, on the other hand, is being courted by major magazine publishers. Hearst, Meredith, and Conde Nast all present similar, unexciting pitches made by traditional executives, but they offer Minx a genuine opportunity to reach new heights.
Despite these attractive offers, Joyce hesitates in selecting a publishing partner, causing frustration for Bambi and Richie, who left Bottom Dollar to join her and have set up temporary magazine offices at Richie's aunt's bakery. To make ends meet, they take on additional jobs since Minx isn't providing a salary yet. This leads to Joyce assisting Richie during a photo shoot at the grand residence of Constance Papadopoulos, the world's first female Chief Executive Officer, portrayed by Elizabeth Perkins.
Upon meeting Constance, Joyce is immediately starstruck as she recognizes her remarkable achievements. However, Constance scolds her for not knowing how to perform various tasks, including those of a photo assistant, within her company. Joyce excels at making awkward first impressions, which is quite evident.
From their initial encounter, it was clear that Constance was a woman of strong principles, not someone to be underestimated. She pursued a man she desired and claimed him as her own, though it involved a substantial amount of money. Constance remains true to her nature, unapologetically going after what she wants and achieving her goals.
While Joyce admires Constance's assertiveness, she isn't entirely sure if she aspires to be like her. Nevertheless, fate will decide as the two women will be working closely together. Upon learning that Richie has a wealthy woman supporting him, Doug wasted no time in devising his next move—a brilliant plan that promises great success.
Meanwhile, Shelly and Bambi are unable to ignore their strong attraction to each other. Although Shelly deeply loves her husband, something has been missing from their marriage for a long time, and it extended beyond just the physical aspect. Bambi understands her on a different level, and they had a bond even before things turned physical. With Shelly most likely rejoining the Minx team, the two will be working closely again.
One of the smartest decisions the Minx writers have made was not prolonging the inevitable task of reuniting the whole team. With Constance financing the magazine and the old guard together and ready to go, I'm excited to see the where the rest of the season takes the Minx team.
