An upcoming Western drama created by Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind "Yellowstone," 1923, and "1883," Lawmen: Bass Reeves allows Sheridan to depart from the Dutton family saga to delve into an entirely distinct narrative set in the Wild West, featuring David Oyelowo as the titular character, Bass Reeves.
This historical figure was the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal to serve west of the Mississippi River, and the series takes its name from him. Unlike the thematic focus on ranches and land ownership prevalent in Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" franchise, "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" sets out to chronicle the genuine history of one of the most captivating figures from the Old West.
